Kid burglars nabbed in Putrajaya

Putrajaya (The Star/ANN) - Two boys, aged seven and eight, skipped classes and broke into 26 homes here in a six-month thieving spree, stealing money, shoes, caps, mobile phones, a watch and a portable console game.

With the stolen money, the boys bought shoes and a radio-controlled toy car.

Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Razak Abdul Majid said the two attended the same school and lived within the same government staff quarters in Phase 4C, Section 8 here.

"The boys broke into the homes of residents living in the same apartment block by using keys that the residents hid in shoes and pots near the entrance.

"Some of the residents did not even lock their homes when they left for work," he said during a press conference at the Putrajaya district police headquarters yesterday.

ACP Abdul Razak said it was common for Putrajaya residents not to lock their homes because they assumed Putrajaya was a crime-free city.

"One of the thieving boys' parents also hid their house keys in a shoe. He thus probably got the idea that it was easy to enter people's homes and steal their belongings," he said.

The boys' crime spree lasted for six months before they were caught.

They boasted about their exploits to a friend who then told his father. The father lodged a police report on Oct 27.

None of the boys' victims reported the thefts as they thought it was a small matter.

Police visited the homes of the two boys the day after the report was lodged and when questioned, they admitted to the crimes.

They showed the cops their stash - two pairs of shoes, a watch, two caps, three pen drives, a wallet, 14 ringgit, a mobile phone, bicycle and a portable console game.

ACP Abdul Razak said the boys were too young to be charged and the police had alerted the Welfare Department to look into the matter.

Police have also informed the boys' parents and the school authorities.

"Heloo B...dah ondaway blik ke.. u kat mane...urmmm tlg tapau B.. Nasi goreng kg je la.... Pasta tu? nanti u balik i citer.. ok. Tq B.." Hampeh kan.. aku snap gambo-gambo tuk korang tgk supaya berhati2 memilih makanan dalam tin...xspecially makanan dari barat... x terjamin kebersihannya... MARAHH NIE... duit haku sape nk ganti blik nehhh...
